Tall Wisdom
or
A High
Wooing
(9-26-04)
Job.36:15-26
It is important for us to not loose sight of some basic truths:
God the Father, Jesus the Son, _____ the Holy Spirit. The reading today picks
up in the middle of the words of Elihu the not old friend of Jobs’. Jobs friends came to his side to comfort him in
his affliction and misery. They did little to make him feel better. Elihu, being younger, waited till they had said all they
could and more than they should have, then he speaks up. (Job.32:1-7)
Our topic on growth and maturity ends today.
The greatest lesson
to be learned in growing up and growing more mature is all about God. I do not get smarter or more mature just because I’m
getting older. Wisdom and understanding come from God, and that is at ant age. We face some tough decisions in the future
but let us not be daunted, we are where our Lord has desired for us to be.
God allowed Job to be tested in the trials of pain suffering
and loss and it was for a reason – growth. We have had an interesting year thus far here at Morton. Not just as a Church
body but also in the personal struggles of our individual lives. God is up to something! Our Lord and Master is growing His
Church, whom we are. Jesus has a plan for His Church here in Morton, it is all about Him.
What does
Jesus want?
How do we answer that
looming Question rightly? Can it be answered rightly? (I think yes!) Wisdom does not belong to the aged because of age. Wisdom
does not belong to tenure because of long association. Wisdom does not belong to long standing practice and tradition. Wisdom
comes from the almighty and that is more supply and demand than it is piled in reservoirs. What I mean is every momentary
struggle needs fresh outpouring from the council of the Lord of Heaven.
Elihu speaks thus:
“..it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him
understanding.” (Job.32:8) He goes on to say “the spirit within me
compels me.” (verse 32b) We too have something to learn about making right choices, God gives or offers the right one
and the best part of wisdom is in listening to the council of the Lord.
Some might be thinking,
why go to the old testament for this lesson, we are the new testament church. No discrepancy or variance is found in doing
that; Paul says: (1Cor.2:10-16) If we desire the Church to come through this particular hardship stronger and more mature
then to whom should we seek council? To who’s council should the Church listen?
I am willing to believe
the Church is going through all that it is at this moment in time because God is growing the Church. And out of that growing
is produced godly leaders who have learned to seek council from on high. That tall wisdom that rises above the human efforts
to be smart. That high wooing from the husband of the Church that speaks compassionately, ‘listen to my voice, I know
where I want to lead you, give me your hand and come where I am wanting you to be.’
What does Jesus want
from His Church here at Morton? Can I speak an answer and it be His? 1st seek His council. 2nd trust
His answer(s) 3rd demonstrate that trust in obedience of action. 4th give Him the glory due Him. Amen
