Know Thy Self

(5-9-04)

1Pet.1:22-2:5

“5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

How can you live out your full potential in Christ if you do not know who and what you are? Can you? Doubtful! If I did not know that I was a preacher, would I be preaching? I was willing to believe I was a preacher before I ever preached. By preaching I only confirm who I am and what I am, a servant of the Living Word - Jesus.

DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST?

Jesus has called you to himself and you have answered that call. That is if you have in fact complied with His call. When Jesus calls, he assigns a who and a what. (1Cor.12:11, 18, 27-31; Rom.9:20; Jn.3:8) Not only did Jesus set His sights on you to rescue you (Col.1:13) but he has also cleaned you up making you a vessel fit for His service, (2Pet.1:9; 2Tim.2:20-21)

We are a people who have been called into holiness for righteousness sake. We each have been gifted specially and specifically for our unique calling in Christ. (1Cor.12:11)  We each need to be willing to submit ourselves to God for His purposes. (Rom. 12:1-8)

How many of us would like for our lives to make sense? Do you know what I mean? We all ask ourselves at various times of quiet, serious reflection, what is my existence all about? Do I have a reason beyond just existing? Absolutely! I submit to you by these scriptures we see here and others, that you will never experience true fulfillment of life until you come to terms with who and what you are in Christ. Further, I also believe by this same scripture that you will never determine who you are in Christ Jesus until you yield your will to His – Submit. I also understand that your true joy and fulfillment in Christ will be experienced in its greatest measure when your life is a journey of walking in carrying out of your unique calling in Christ – what ever that may be.

None of us are yet what God would have us to be!

This week let your prayers be – Lord, You have a vision of who and what you have called me to be for you and for your kingdom and for my brethren. I desperately want to be what you want me to be for your glory and purpose. I desire to yield up my will to you, help me to let go my control over my life. I want to let go but don’t know how. Reveal to my inner being through your Spirit that you have caused to dwell in me, who I am in you. Teach me what I need to know about my unique calling so that I might bring you greater glory than I now do. I understand that nothing that I am asking is out of line with your will, but rather it is what you desire for me to have, therefore, so be it! In Jesus name, it is so.
